About Flomerics

Flomerics is a world-leading player in the rapidly-expanding fields of "virtual prototyping" and Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE). We provide engineering simulation software and services for analysis of fluid flow, heat transfer and electromagnetic radiation. Using Flomerics’ software and consultancy services, customers accelerate and optimize their design processes by predicting the behavior of proposed designs before building physical prototypes. Flomerics' business model, called "Design-Class Analysis", is drastically different from traditional analysis because our software is designed to be embedded deeply into the design process and used by mainstream design engineers, not just by analysis specialists.

Flomerics’ software products and services are based around four distinct lines of business:

Electronics Cooling

Flomerics is the clear market leader in thermal simulation of electronic equipment, with a client list including virtually all the major electronics companies in the world. We provide an integrated suite of software tools for thermal analysis of individual IC packages, circuit boards, and complete electronic systems. Our software removes communication barriers between electrical and mechanical engineers enabling fast resolution of thermal management problems that are traditionally difficult, expensive and time-consuming to resolve. Customers achieve significant cost savings and design cycle compression through using our software either as point solutions or as an Integrated Analysis Environment. Through our MicReD subsidiary we offer thermal testing equipment that complements the software simulation business.

Engineering Fluid Dynamics

Flomerics’ EFD product family is a new breed of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software that enables mechanical design engineers to analyze and optimize complex fluid flow and heat transfer processes across a wide range of products and industries. 7 key technologies distinguish the EFD product family from traditional CFD software, making it quicker and easier to use, more robust, and more accurate. The EFD product family is tightly integrated with leading 3D mechanical computer-aided design (MCAD) software such as Pro/ENGINEER, CATIAv5 and SolidWorks. In the case of SolidWorks, the product is sold under the brand name COSMOSFloWorks through the SolidWorks sales channel.

Electromagnetics

Predicting 3D high-frequency electromagnetic radiation is an increasingly important requirement for many different industries and application areas. Understanding and optimizing the performance of antenna and microwave devices for all types of wireless systems is crucial for the telecommunications, military, automotive and aerospace industries. For the electronics industry, containing electromagnetic emissions from electronic equipment to ensure electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is also a key legal requirement. All these application areas are addressed by Flomerics’ electromagnetic simulation software tools and services.

Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC)

Flomerics’ FLOVENT software predicts 3D airflow, heat transfer and contamination distribution in and around buildings of all types and sizes. The software is tailored for building designers, with an easy-to-use menu system developed specifically for the design and optimization of heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems.

Company history

The desire to create a Design-Class analysis company led to the creation of Flomerics in June 1988. Customer demand was strong, particularly in the USA, and in September 1990 Flomerics Incorporated was established as a wholly-owned US subsidiary based in Massachusetts and handling all Flomerics business in the Americas.

Flomerics continued to grow rapidly from 1990 to 1995. In December 1995 Flomerics floated on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) and in 2001 the company won the ‘Best Communications’ award from AIM for Investor Relations.

Also in 1995 Flomerics launched the magazine "ElectronicsCooling”, which is now firmly established as the premier industry magazine for all aspects of thermal management in the electronics industries.

Flomerics has led two collaborative EU research projects that established new standards and methodologies for thermal characterization of electronic packages. This pioneering work has had a radical effect on industry-wide practices for both measurement and simulation of the thermal behavior of packages.

By the late 1990s FLOTHERM had become clearly established as the global market leader in thermal analysis software for electronics, with a customer base including virtually all major companies in all sectors of the electronics industries. Using this as a foundation, Flomerics broadened its product suite to address other critical design needs encountered by the same customer base. This led to the release of FLO/EMC for electromagnetic analysis and more recently FLO/PCB for board-level thermal analysis. In 1999 Flomerics acquired Kimberley Communications Consultants Limited, a UK based electromagnetic software company whose existing product Microstripes became the foundation for FLO/EMC.

In 2005, Flomerics acquired the Hungarian-based thermal test equipment company, MicReD. The addition of this world leading technology to the existing portfolio of Flomerics solutions represents an important step in the evolution of Flomerics into a company dedicated to providing integrated solutions to our customers needs.

In July 2006 the acquisition of Nika GMbH added the EFD.Lab, EFD.Pro, EFD.v5 and COMOSFloWorks products together with the underlying leading edge Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) technology. This has enabled Flomerics to expand into new markets and broaden the range of products sold and supported through our extensive world-wide operations.

International Infrastructure

Flomerics has always been committed to establishing local operations to serve overseas markets wherever possible. By providing the best possible local service to customers, it has been possible for Flomerics to achieve and maintain its global market leadership.
