About Flomerics

Flomerics is a world-leading player in the rapidly-expanding fields of "virtual prototyping" and Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE). We provide engineering simulation software and consultancy services for analysis of fluid flow and heat transfer. Using Flomerics’ software and consultancy services, our customers accelerate their design processes, optimize their proposed designs, eliminate mistakes and dramatically reduce costs by predicting product behavior before building physical prototypes. Flomerics' approach to engineering analysis is drastically different from traditional analysis because our software is designed to be embedded deeply into the design process and used by mainstream design engineers, not only by analysis specialists.

Flomerics’ software products and services are based around three distinct lines of business:

Electronics Cooling

Flomerics is the clear market leader in thermal simulation of electronic equipment, with a client list including virtually all the major electronics companies in the world. We provide an integrated suite of software tools for thermal analysis of individual IC packages, circuit boards, and complete electronic systems. Our software removes communication barriers between electrical and mechanical engineers enabling fast resolution of thermal management problems that are traditionally difficult, expensive and time-consuming to resolve. Customers achieve significant cost reductions and design cycle compression through using our software either as point solutions or as an Integrated Analysis Environment. Through our MicReD subsidiary we offer thermal testing equipment that complements the software simulation business.

Engineering Fluid Dynamics

Flomerics’ EFD product family is a new breed of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software that enables mechanical design engineers to analyze and optimize complex fluid flow and heat transfer processes across a wide range of products and industries. 7 key technologies distinguish the EFD product family from traditional CFD software, making it quicker and easier to use, more robust, and more accurate. The EFD product family is tightly embedded with leading 3D mechanical computer-aided design (MCAD) software such as SolidWorks, Pro/ENGINEER and CATIA V5. In the case of SolidWorks, the product is sold through the SolidWorks sales channel under the brand name COSMOSFloWorks.

Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC)

Flomerics’ FLOVENT software predicts 3D airflow, heat transfer and contamination distribution in and around buildings of all types and sizes. The software is tailored for building designers, with an easy-to-use menu system developed specifically for the design and optimization of heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems. Our EFD software is also widely used in the HVAC industry for optimizing the performance of products such as air handling units, refrigeration units, heaters, etc.

Company History

The desire to create a new kind of engineering analysis company led to the creation of Flomerics in June 1988. Customer demand was strong, in the USA, and in September 1990 Flomerics Inc. was established as a wholly-owned US subsidiary based in Massachusetts handling all Flomerics business in the Americas.

Flomerics continued to grow rapidly from 1990 to 1995, and in December 1995 floated on the London Stock Exchange Alternative Investment Market (AIM).

Also in 1995, Flomerics launched the magazine "ElectronicsCooling”, which now has a global circulation of over 12,000 subscribers and is firmly established as the premier trade magazine for all aspects of thermal management in the electronics industries. During the 1990’s, Flomerics also led two collaborative EU research projects that established new standards and methodologies for thermal characterization of electronic packages. This pioneering work introduced the concept of “compact” thermal models and has had a radical effect on industry-wide practices for both measurement and simulation of the thermal behavior of packages.

By the late 1990s FLOTHERM had become clearly established as the global market leader in thermal analysis software for electronics, with a customer base including virtually all leading companies in all sectors of the electronics industries.

In 2005, Flomerics acquired the Hungarian-based thermal test equipment company, MicReD. The addition of this world-leading technology to Flomerics’ portfolio represents an important step in providing a complete, integrated thermal solution to our customers in the electronics industry.

In 2006 Flomerics acquired the German-based company Nika GmbH together with a new breed of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software known as Engineering Fluid Dynamics (EFD). The EFD.Lab, EFD.Pro, EFD.V5 and COSMOSFloWorks products acquired with Nika have enabled Flomerics to expand into new markets and broaden the range of products sold and supported through our extensive world-wide operations.

International Infrastructure

Flomerics is and always has been committed to establishing local sales and support offices and dedicated agents to provide the best possible service to our overseas customers. This strategy has been vitally important to Flomerics in building international sales and maintaining global market leadership. Flomerics' international sales success – consistently achieving around 90% of sales revenues from outside the UK - was recognized in 2000 by the presentation of a "Queen's Award for Enterprise" in the International Trade category.
