New environmentally friendly CO2 based automotive air conditioning systems operate at pressures 7 to 10 times higher than previous generation systems. This makes it necessary to reduce the pressure drop of the valves used to evacuate and charge the system to enable the required flow rates. But reducing the pressure drop of valves is challenging because of the complexity of internal flow passages caused by the presence of components used to open and close the valve.

MARENCO AG Reduces Extractor Hood Design Time
Since 1997 Marenco AG has been offering innovative engineering and consulting services to companies such as Hilti AG, Roche and Bosch. One of their customers recently contracted the design of a new kitchen extractor hood to Marenco. Placed over a cooking range, extractor hoods remove grease, smoke and odors from the kitchen. Extractor hoods rely on a combination of a fan and filtration system to extract and or clean the air. Designing extractor hoods is an especially challenging process since it is extremely difficult to see inside a working prototype and how various components interact with one another.
