Shaw Aero Devices Reduces Prototype Development Time from 3 Months to 1 Day

Aerospace valve manufacturer Shaw Aero Devices, Inc. faced a difficult challenge. A customer was interested in purchasing a large quantity of a solenoid valve similar to one of their standard products. The catch was that the customer specified a pressure drop of 0.75 pounds per square inch (psi) at a flow rate of 4.45 gallons per minute (gpm) while Shaw’s standard valve measured out at 6.09 psi. Shaw Aero Devices needed a better way of testing products -- building and testing at least three prototypes, each at a cost of $3000 and 30 days, in an effort to eliminate constrictions with no guarantee of success just wasn't fast enough.

Bronswerk Heat Transfer B.V. has become a leading designer and manufacturer of heat exchangers, compressors and fans. They have quickly become the supplier of choice for companies such as Shell, Exxon Mobil, Bayer, Philips, Unocal and Texaco.

When Bronswerk set out to develop a new air-cooled cooler and fan that was quieter and more efficient than others in the field, they didn’t know that their new product would also have a massive impact on the environment.

Ingersoll Rand Energy Systems Improves Microturbine

Ingersoll Rand Energy Systems is a developer of distributed-generation power technologies and Advanced Thermal Technologies that lower fuel costs and emissions with long-life, low maintenance solutions. The company specializes in developing microturbines that supplement utility grids with cost-effective electrical energy that is reliable and safe for the environment.

The engineering team was given the challenge of developing a new inlet plenum design that provided the same level of performance as previous models while being considerably less expensive to build.
