Enhanced Geometry
Blowers
V6.1 includes an extended Recirculation SmartPart that
allows for the definition of a linear or a non-linear fan
curve between the Supply and Extract planes. In support
of this change and to allow quick creation of blower geometry,
we have created a new Blower
Macro available in the Web
Parts area of the user support area.
The animation shows the results from a Microblower analysis created using
the web macro.
Angled Fans
A new option to create an angled fan primitive in a single
plane has been added to the Axial Fan SmartPart.
If required the hub and cowl geometry can also be added using
either FLO/MCAD or the new Angled Fan Macro available in the
Web Parts area of the user support area.
The animation shows an axial fan mounted at 45 o
in the corner of an idealized PC system design.
Tet & Inverted-Tet Primitives
The Geometry Palettes in the Project Manager and Drawing
Board have been updated to include 2 new primitives:
Tet and Inverted Tet.

These objects can be used to create more accurate thick
geometry such as spheres or chamfers. The sequence below
shows a single Inverted Tet, with 3 abutting Tets on
the aligned triangular faces and then used to complete
part of a facetted sphere.

The sloping faces of these new primitives utilize the
cut-cell and porosity treatment equivalent to prisms
and can be used for applications requiring full conjugate
heat transfer.
Core Product Synergy
Separate EM & Thermal grids
The grid in v6.1 is now stored independently for FLO/EMC
and FLOTHERM within a single project definition. This
reduces the time required for integrated simulation by
allowing engineers to operate with appropriate meshes
to capture the differing physics in the two analyses,
one optimized for thermal simulation and one for EMC
simulation.

The Project Manager has an icon enabled to link directly
to the parts website, www.smartparts3d.com.
The link operates as follows:

- Browse the site and click on the Save icon for the
part required – for example, Delta Fan – part
no. FFB1224EHE:

- The selected part will automatically appear as a
child object of the selected assembly.

Thermal Solver Speed/Efficiency
64-bit support
FLOTHERM is now available on Windows for 64-bit Extended
Systems (X64) including AMD Athlon 62, AMD Opteron, Intel
Xeon with EM64T and Intel Pentium with EM64T as well
as Solaris 8, 9 & 10 on SPARC platforms.
Post-Processing
Annotation – Cursor Values
Field plots in FLOMOTION can now be annotated with
field values and location via the Cursor Values dialog
with a left mouse button click. If the image is then
rotated or zoomed or the plane is re-located, the annotations
will automatically update to reflect the new orientation,
viewpoint or plane location.
Particles - Adaptive Time Steps
This is an update to the algorithm used to create particles
in FLOMOTION that automatically calculates on a local
basis the appropriate Integral Time Steps for the tracks.
The primary benefits of the new approach are that the
tracks will be more accurate, faster to create and dynamic
when sources are re-located. It is also now possible
to interrupt a particle plot being created by clicking
on <ctrl>c at any time.
