Version 7 Highlights

Post Processing

“Visual Editor” replacement for Flomotion

The Flomotion application window has been retired and replaced with the new Visual Editor application window. A new look and feel with increased usability and a range of new features.

A standalone version of the Visual Editor, ‘SAVE’, is also available. This full functionality application is provided free of charge and is unlicensed. It is recommended that this viewer is used to present simulation results to both internal and external clients.

A Japanese translated version of the Visual Editor GUI can be activated. The text shown in the menus, node tree and property sheets is translated and only English text entry is supported.

Enhanced Geometry and Physical Models

Conjugate heat transfer in Collapsed Cuboids

In plane conduction in collapsed cuboids, and SmartParts comprised of collapsed cuboids, can be activated via [Solve/Overall Control…] in the Project Manager. This may result in faster solutions due to the reduction in grid cell count.

C.R.A.C. (Computer Room Air Conditioner) extension to the Recirculation Device SmartPart

C.R.A.C. units can be modeled more accurately using an extension to the Recirculation Device SmartPart. A desired return temperature is specified as is a total cooling load (Maximum Power).

Heat is extracted from the recirculating air such that the desired return temperature is achieved. However, the defined maximum cooling load can not be exceeded and, if reached, will result in higher return temperatures. Both the actual cooling load and return temperature are indicated in the Tables application window.

Optimization

Response Surface Optimization (RSO)

As an alternative to Sequential Optimization, a Response Surface Optimization (RSO) capability, is now provided via [Scenario/Optimize…] in the Command Center application window.

After a Design of Experiments (DoE) has been created and solved in the Command Center application window, an RSO can be run. This quick calculation results in a curve fitted to all defined output variables and the cost function. This curve can be viewed in either a 2D or 3D Chart window to enable easy determination of the sensitivity of design goals to changes in the model definition.

In addition to this, the global optimum location of the cost function is automatically set as a new scenario project in the Command Center. This can then be solved to confirm the global optimum:

FLO/MCAD

DXF Import

ASCII DXF files can now be imported into FLO/MCAD. 2D face and 1D edge entities are recognized. This provides an interface approach for importing and extruding 2D architectural floorplans.

Supported Operating Systems

The following Windows Vista Editions are supported by V7:

  • Ultimate
  • Business
  • Enterprise
