FloVENT Version 8 Highlights

Results Post-Processing

Capture Index

Capture Index (CI) is a metric that can be used to assess the cooling performance in data center simulations involving discrete models of racks and cooling devices

In terms of:
  • Cold Aisle CI: the fraction of air ingested by the rack which originates from local cooling resources (e.g. perforated floor tiles or local coolers)
  • Hot Aisle CI: the fraction of air exhausted by a rack which is captured by local extracts (e.g. local coolers or return vents).

The Capture Index functionality has been implemented under license from the American Power Conversion Corporation: APCC Sales and Services Corporation, 85 Rangeway Road, Bldg 2, North Billerica, MA 01862, USA. (http://www.apc.com).

Tables Window reimplemented into the Visual Editor

The Tables window has been removed and incorporated into the Visual Editor to produce a single post-processing application window.

The display can be toggled between full 3D, full tabular and vertical or horizontal split combinations.

Animation of transient simulations

Any defined plot objects, e.g. plane plot, surface plot etc. can be animated by each time step of a transient simulation within the Visual Editor. Alternatively the start and end time steps can be changed to focus in on part of the transient simulation.

The resulting animation can be viewed within the Visual Editor or exported as an .avi file.

Usability

Multiple apply to multiply selected similar objects

When multiple objects of the same type are selected, a change can be applied to all objects in a single click. This is done by first selecting the objects than popping up their location or construction dialogs. Then make the required change, e.g. location, size, collapsed etc. Then right mouse click over that dialog item and select ‘Apply to All’.

Note that if two or more changes are to be applied then they should be done one at a time.
